Road Trip - Day 2

Day 2.  What a day.  This day was incredible!!  We started at Cathedral Valley.

With a beautiful view and a bit of a sunrise!

We cooked a delicious breakfast and made coffee from river water (healthy? we did boil it?).  Then washed our dishes in the river.

We had some very happy dogs.  Covered in dirt and mud.  Couldn't be happier.  Then we started our driving for the day.  No idea where we were heading or where we wanted to camp.  Mileage for the day... 148 miles

Filled up all of our water at Dixie National Park/Escalante National Park.

Snow bug rode on the dash the entire way from Park City.  We like to think he kept getting madder the farther away from the snow we got.

We ended up in Calf Creek.  This was an incredible hike.  So beautiful and a rich history.  There were 15 posts that we stopped at and got to learn a little bit about the environment, rock formations, and other cool things.

Loving life.

So of the rock formations.  May have an indian painting on it?

Hot and happy puppies!

The beautiful waterfall this hike lead to.  The water was FREEZING.  Brian went all the way in.  I really wish I had a video of it.  He ran in, dunked his head, and turned around so quickly and ran out you would have thought something was about to eat him

Beautiful, in the middle of the desert.

What an incredible view.  Such, such an amazing place.

This is Kiva Koffeehouse which is in the middle of nowhere.  Had amazing coffee and an amazing view.  It is about 3 miles from the Calf Creek area.  I would love to know where the people who worked there lived and what they did besides working.

This is Bryce Canyon (Point E).  It was beautiful.  Lonely Planet describes the formations like they are out of a Dr. Seuss book.  Bryce just teased Brian and I.  In National Parks around the country, dogs are not permitted on any trails.  They are allowed in the parking lots and that is about it.  So, we had to stay on the rim.  Wishing we were down below the rim hiking through the park.  One day.

Another view of Bryce.

Fairyland Canyon in Bryce.

Bryce.

About 12 miles south of Bryce is a place called Red Canyon (Point F).  They are BLM land, and they allow dogs and free camping.  So this is where we bunkered down.  We decided to go on a hike that supposedly had 15 arches.  The only legit arch is pictured above.  The rest of the arches were small little holes in the rock.  It was a great hike, and we laughed and counted all the "arches"

Having a hard time off the trail

Arch window!

Cabin Hollow... campground for the night.

End of day 2.  Total mileage thus far... 483
